Join elected officials for a live presentation on the history of the Armenian Genocide. This April marks the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Traditionally, Grant HS has held a commemoration assembly. This year we are unable to host our annual event, but we encourage you to participate virtually in a Facebook Live event.

LAUSD students, parents, and community members are encouraged to watch. The presentation will review free educational resources on the Armenian Genocide that families can access.

Grant High School continues to stress the importance of promoting human dignity and confronting hate where ever and whenever it occurs.

Tuesday, April 21 marks Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. 

This year Grant was planning to recognize this day with a special assembly.  However, due to the school closures, we are unable to hold an event on campus.  Please take a few minutes today or this week in quiet reflection and acknowledgement of the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust.  The link above provides information about online commemorations you can watch.  If you wish to follow commemorations on social media tomorrow, watch for #HolocaustRemembrance and #WeRemember.

Yesterday, Superintendent Beutner announced officially that LAUSD schools would remain closed through the end of the school year.

Schools will remain closed through the end of the year; however, we will continue to provide continuity of instruction for all students.

Families that need help navigating the system will be able to receive it through virtual workshops provided by the local district.

Learning will continue through our online programs.  All students should be checking in through Schoology a few times a week; learning activities and assignments are being provided for ALL classes.  Teachers, counselors, and administrators are available through virtual office hours.  Those virtual office hours are posted on Schoology and on the Grant website.  Please e-mail me ([email protected]) if you need more details about getting in touch with a specific individual.

Students who still need devices should contact Grant HS immediately so they will be able to complete their class assignments.  I will be on campus from 10:00 - 11:00am to distribute Chromebooks tomorrow morning (Wednesday, 4/15).  If your student needs a Chromebook, please ensure you or the student comes during that time window.

Given the extension of the school closures related to COVID-19 and the Safer at Home policies, Grant HS and LAUSD are transitioning to a more complete continuity of instruction program.

First, every student needs a computer device. We have distributed hundreds of Chromebooks. If you still need access to a device and do not yet have one, please email Mr. Simonian ([email protected]). Moving forward, it will be imperative that students are logging on to Schoology and keeping up with course-specific requirements. While we had previously released grade level assignments for math, English, history, and science, we will now be providing course-specific requirements for ALL classes.

On March 23, Superintendent Beutner announced that school closures will continue through Friday, May 1.  In order to continue our instructional program, we will be providing education following a Distance Learning model beginning next week.  Information about class requirements will be posted on Schoology and on our school website, granths.org.

I know this is a challenging time for our families, especially if you're worried that your child does not have a computer device to access online lessons and learning opportunities.  To assist our families, Grant High School and LAUSD are providing devices and internet connections to students who do not already have them.  Distribution will begin on Thursday, March 26, starting with our students in the Class of 2020 and followed by those in other classes.

As a part of the $175 million Comprehensive Modernization project currently underway, we are scheduled to remove 19 trees during spring break. (Overall, a total of 48 existing trees will be removed, and 99 new trees will be planted. A new irrigation system will be installed for new trees. We will follow all state and local regulations.)

A reminder that the Los Angeles Unified School District will continue to provide meals for our families at 60 Grab and Go Food Centers located around the district. The centers will  now be open from  7 a.m. to 11a.m. LDNE Grab and Go centers are located at Byrd MS, San Fernando HS, Maclay MS, Verdugo Hills HS, East Valley HS, Romer MS, Van Nuys HS, Fulton College Prep, and Panorama HS.
